BLUE LED Lights - 5mm

Blue light-emitting diodes 5 mm in diameter from the range of Green Stuff World. It is not a kit but an electrical component that a modeler builds into a scene and that replaces a painted highlight with real light. In this range a diameter of 5 mm is among the larger ones, so the diode will light a larger area as well.

Where blue light is useful

Blue is the color of cold and of technology. In science fiction scenes it carries energy cores, thrusters, shield projectors and blue-backlit terminals. With contemporary vehicles it serves for the beacons of emergency vehicles and for night backlighting of cabs. In a civil scene it suits places where cold should be felt: an icy landscape, an underwater view or moonlight over a snowbound village. A larger diameter has the advantage that it can light the whole volume of translucent material, for instance a resin water surface or a floe of ice.

What to keep in mind when building it in

• Prepare the hole according to the diameter of the diode, that is 5 mm.
• When lighting a water surface, place the source beneath the material so that the light passes through the whole volume.
• Settle the route of the wiring before the scene is closed up.
• Blue recolors its surroundings markedly, so judge the result only in the finished composition.

For builders of science fiction dioramas, winter and underwater scenes, and for modelers of modern vehicles. It also comes into its own on a gaming table, where a lit element doubles as a landmark.
