A brush for painting models by hand

A brush from the range of modeling supplies for painting. It comes into its own where the stream from an airbrush does not reach: on small parts, on the insides of cockpits and fighting compartments, on carrying a shade over a part already built in, and on applying varnishes, patinas and softeners. The size, the shape of the stroke and the type of hair are given on the package of the item.

How to work with the brush

Always thin the paint so that it flows freely from the hair; thick paint opens the hair up and leaves grooves from the strokes on the surface. Pick it up only on the front part of the hair, never as far as the metal ferrule, because paint that dries at the root splays the hair permanently. Cover an area with two thin strokes rather than one heavy one, and let each dry. While working, turn the brush regularly in your fingers, as the tip then keeps its shape.

Care of the brush

• wash the brush right after work, as dried paint at the ferrule can no longer be rinsed out
• do not leave it standing hair down in a pot of thinner, as the hair bends and stays bent
• after washing, shape the hair into a point between your fingers and let it dry freely
• store it hair upwards or lying down, never pressed into the wall of a container
• set an older brush aside for mixing paints, for glue and for dry pigments

It suits everyone who paints by hand: builders of plastic models, figure painters and the modeler who sprays with an airbrush and needs a brush for the finishing work. Whatever the type of hair, the life of a brush is decided by care rather than by what it cost.
