The number in the name gives the size of the brush: four already has a noticeably wider stroke than the detail zeros and twos and takes up more paint, so it covers a smaller surface without repeated dipping and without visible strokes. Wash the brush out right after work: acrylics with water or a brush cleaner, enamels and lacquers with the matching thinner. Do not let the paint run down to the metal ferrule, because it dries there and the bristles open out permanently. After washing, draw the bristles into shape with your fingers and let the brush dry bristles upwards; never put it down in a jar bristles first, as bent bristles will never straighten again. For a dry brush set aside one older piece, as that technique wears the bristles markedly.
