A brush is a modeler's basic tool even where the main areas are sprayed with an airbrush. Nothing gets done without it when painting small parts, touching in places the spray cannot reach, laying a wash into recesses, repairing a scuffed spot or varnishing small areas. The quality of a brush shows at once: a good brush holds the shape of its stroke, does not splay to the sides and gives up paint evenly, so that a single pass does not leave two bands of different thickness.
Stir the paint first and load only part of the length of the hair, never right up to the ferrule at the handle. Paint that gets that far dries inside the bundle, forces it apart and the brush never holds its shape again. Apply in several light coats and let the paint dry in between; one heavy coat leaves brush marks. Draw the brush smoothly in one direction and do not press; pressure splays the hair and the stroke widens.
Clean the brush right after work, before the paint dries, and with a product that matches the paint used. After washing, draw the hair back into its original shape with your fingers and let the brush dry lying flat or hair upward. Stored hair down in a jar, it deforms beyond repair.
Paints, thinners and other modeling tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
