A wing nut of a size of 2.0 mm from the GAS HANS brand is a detail accessory for the building of models. It takes the place of simplified cast shapes in the places where a hand-tightened joint is to be apparent - on covers, clamps and brackets.
The most frequent mistake with small details is drowning the shape in paint. Make the application thin and preferably repeated: a thick coat rounds the edges of the wings off and turns a sharp part into a droplet. Apply the base by spraying in a thin mist, not with a brush, because a brush gathers the paint into a ring around the part. When you cannot spray, thin the paint more than usual and draw the brush away from the part, not across it.
The shape only comes through after it has been emphasized. Let a darkened wash run under the wings and into the seam around the nut - the shadow will show that the part really does stand out above the surface. The tops of the wings, on the contrary, should be gone over lightly with a dry brush in a shade one tone lighter. If you are setting the part in place only after the model has been painted, sand the paint off the contact surface, so that the glue holds on the material and not on the finish.
