Early summer – limestone rocks M (Model Scene)

This is a finished diorama element, not a kit. The package contains a limestone rock formation of size M complemented by greenery in the color tuning of early summer, when the grass is still richly green and juicy and the growth is not dried out by the sun. The element only has to be settled into a scene and worked into the surrounding terrain, so the laborious layering of scatters and modeling a rock outcrop from nothing is avoided.

Use in a diorama

The rocks suit the edges of country tracks, field margins and copses, the slopes of embankments, stream beds or as a natural divide between an open area and growth. They also work well as a visual stop that closes the composition of a scene and stops a diorama running out beyond the edge of the base visually. The rock itself has no fixed size, so the element can be used across the common modeling scales — the perceived size is decided by the vehicles and figures you put next to it.

Installation tips

First try the position dry and turn the rock so that the bedding of the limestone lies horizontally as it does in nature. Level the substrate under the element so that the formation does not stand on an edge and no visible gap forms beneath it. Hide the transition between the rock and the terrain with a loose material — fine gravel, soil, dust or static grass; a sharp joint gives away the model origin of a scene faster than anything else. Tune the color harmony with a light dry brush and pigments in the shades of the surrounding soil.
