A blade of technical ceramic intended for the handle of a modeling knife. Against steel, ceramic has two advantages that count in a modeling workshop: it does not corrode, so damp, remains of paint and thinners will not harm it, and it holds its edge considerably longer. Anyone who does a lot of scraping of parting lines or cleaning up of resin castings will change a ceramic blade many times later than a thin steel one.
Ceramic is hard but brittle. Lead the blade in a pulling stroke over the surface, therefore, do not lever with it sideways and do not set it point-down on a hard surface. When clamping it into a handle, tighten it only gently, as overtightening tends to be the most common cause of cracking. Remove the remains of plastic by wiping; ceramic does not have to be oiled or protected against corrosion. Do not go on using a cracked or chipped blade, as it will slip uncontrollably.
