Chibi-Maru Haruna DX from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi is a simplified kit of the battleship Haruna in a deliberately distorted, cute style. This is not a conventional scale model — the hull is shortened and the proportions emphasize the superstructures and the gun turrets, so the finished ship comes across as a likeable caricature of the real original. The DX designation refers to an extended release of this line. Thanks to the simple construction the build is quick and even a complete beginner will manage it.
Haruna belonged to the Kongo class, the four fast battleships of the Imperial Japanese Navy. She entered service during the First World War as a battlecruiser and, after extensive interwar modernizations, served in the Second World War as a fast battleship, often escorting carrier groups. Her service ended in 1945 near Kure, where she was sunk at her moorings during air raids.
Separate the parts with sharp nippers and clean the edges up with a modeling knife. Use a thin cement for plastic for gluing; for painting, acrylics and a brush are enough — the basis is a gray shade for the hull and the superstructures, and the deck can be set apart with a wooden tone. A fine brush will pick out the small details, and a matte varnish will protect the whole at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
