A shade for imitating scuffs

A pen of the RC Marker range in a shade which, by its name, is intended for imitating scuffs, that is the places where the finish of a model has disappeared through service. Scuffs are among the most conspicuous features of a weathered surface and at the same time among those most easily overdone. A pen suits them precisely because it doses the paint in tiny amounts and the modeler keeps the mark under control throughout.

Where scuffs belong

Where a machine would really be rubbed: on the edges of hatches and doors, on steps and footplates, around handles and latches, on the corners of tanks and crates, in the places where people climb in and out. In the middle of large smooth areas, by contrast, where nobody reaches and nothing rubs against them, a scuffed finish looks implausible.

Recommended procedure

• Test the mark on a piece of scrap plastic first, so that you know how strongly the shade stands out.
• The base must be dry, washed and degreased.
• Start with a small number of tiny marks and add them gradually, as they cannot be taken away.
• Make the shapes irregular, as a continuous straight stripe looks like another coat of paint.
• Place the scuffs mainly on edges, not in the middle of untouched areas.
• Wipe the tip and store the pen carefully closed so that it does not dry out.

Terms of supply

What is supplied is the pen in the stated shade. The model, other shades, clear coats and pigments are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Work in a well-ventilated room and keep the pen out of the reach of children.
