Shade in vegetation is not just a darker green, it is a different structure. Undergrowth beneath crowns grows denser and deeper in color than in the open, and that very difference is what makes a model landscape believable. Dark green material is therefore used most often on woodland edges, on bushes along a wall and on the north sides of slopes.
The bag holds 353 cm³ of turf, a portion that can cover a continuous belt of growth or fill out several smaller scenes.
The dark shade is worth dosing sparingly. Over a large area it looks heavy, but in transitions and hollows it adds a depth mid green cannot manage. Sprinkling the dark color on first and adding lighter tones from above where the sun would fall proves itself.
The procedure is the same as with the other loose materials: thinned white glue, application from a height of a few centimeters, and sweeping off the excess once dry. A finished area can be fixed with thinned varnish against abrasion.
The package holds the loose material only. A bush armature, glue and a base board are not part of it. The grain is colored throughout, so the shade stays stable even after fixing and after long exposure to light.
When building a woodland edge, working from the ground up proves itself. First comes an earth layer, then dark green in the shaded parts, and finally tufts and individual bushes. A sequence like that keeps the scene readable even when the viewer looks at it from eye level.
The material is light, so taking smaller amounts into a dish and closing the window while working is advised.
