An unconventional item of the Cobra Motor line from AMMO of Mig Jimenez. While most automotive palettes are built on red, blue and gray, this purple shade is aimed at vehicles that deliberately did not want to be lost in the crowd: at racing specials and at production paints from a time when makers were not afraid of saturated colors.
Always try an unconventional color out beforehand
With purple it holds doubly that the tone in the bottle and the tone on a body are two different things. Purple also behaves in its own way in photographs and shifts toward blue or toward pink depending on the light. Before you touch a finished body, spray a sample onto an offcut of plastic from the same fret and look it over in the light in which the model will stand.
Saturated colors are helped by a light, evened-out surface underneath; without it more coats tend to be needed and the shade comes out darker. Work in thin applications and let them flash off. If you are planning decals or stripes, count on light colors showing through over purple less well than over gray.
For modelers who are building a car in a striking color and do not want to mix it themselves. The thinning and the chemistry are given by the manufacturer in the directions on the packaging.
