A set of columns for wargaming scenes and dioramas

These are finished scenic objects, not a model kit and not a loose medium. According to the name the set is cast in polyurethane resin and matched in size to figures 30 to 35 mm, that is to the usual wargaming size. Columns are among the elements that give a scene height and rhythm: they divide up an area, create vistas and offer cover to figures.

Where the set fits

The columns can be used as the remains of classical or neoclassical architecture, as the supports of a collapsed hall or as part of ruins in a fantasy or science-fiction setting. Set them into an area so that some stand and some lie, because evenly spaced whole columns read as static, whereas a broken row tells a story at once. On a gaming surface they also work well as a terrain element that blocks line of sight.

Working with resin

First wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap to get the remains of the mold release agent off the surface, because otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, and never break them off. Do the sanding wet and with respiratory protection, because resin dust is fine. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, as a glue for plastic does not work on resin. Apply a primer before painting.
