Corundum Abrasive Pen 240 grit is a U-STAR corundum abrasive pen with a 240 grit — a tool for the precise cleanup of small places, typically the nubs left after nipping a part off the sprue.
Responsibility details are not available.
An abrasive tool in a pen format with a corundum abrasive according to the name of the product. The 240 grit makes it the coarser step of the range: it suits places where material has to be taken off fairly quickly, yet you are working on an area the size of a fingernail that a flat sanding tool cannot reach.
The most typical moment comes right after nipping a part off the sprue. Even good nippers leave a small nub on the edge, or conversely a slight dent in the plastic that shows up after clear-coating as a lighter patch. The pen is held like a ballpoint, so you aim the removal exactly at one place and do not sand the surrounding engraved detail. It serves just as well inside openings, between ribs, at a wing root or in a landing gear bay, where a flat tool has no way of seating.
A corundum abrasive is hard and, pressed at a right angle, can carve a groove into soft polystyrene that you then have to fill. Guide the pen at an angle and let the movement do the work rather than force. The 240 grit is for cleanup, not for finishing — on a place that will be visible under a clear coat, always move on to a higher grit afterward. Sweep the dust that forms away with a soft brush as you go: it works into engraved lines and after spraying it becomes a grain that is harder to remove than the original nub.
