An A5 cutting mat in blue. It protects the desktop while you work with a hobby knife and saves the edge of the blade.
Responsibility details are not available.
A cutting mat belongs to the basic equipment of a modeling bench. It separates the work from the desktop, so the blade leaves no scores in the furniture, and at the same time it holds the material in place better than a smooth board. The softer surface is also kinder to the blade itself, because the point does not go blunt on it as fast as on glass or on a hard board. The portable format also lets you carry work in progress elsewhere without small parts scattering across the table.
The mat is A5, that is 210 x 148 millimeters, and comes in blue. The size suits work with small parts: it fits beside a kit, into a tool case and on the edge of a desk where there is no room for a large board. The blue surface gives good contrast to light plastic parts and offcuts, which would be harder to find on a darker or busier surface.
Always cut with a sharp blade, and rather with several light passes than one heavy one; a blunt blade tears the material and digs into the mat more. When cutting parts free, guide the blade away from yourself and keep your other hand out of the line of the cut. After work, wipe the plastic debris and dust off the mat and store it flat so that it does not warp. Do not put a hot knife or a container of thinner down on it.
A knife, blades and other tools are not included, unless stated otherwise.
