This injection-molded plastic kit from Academy, part of the Da Vinci Machines range, represents a self-propelled cart designed after the ideas of Leonardo da Vinci. It is not a scale model of a vehicle but a working mechanical and educational model that demonstrates the principle of spring drive. The model is assembled without glue, or with a minimum of gluing, and the parts tend to be distinguished by color.
In his drawings Leonardo da Vinci designed a self-propelled cart driven by wound springs, which is sometimes called one of the forerunners of the automobile. The model brings his brilliant mechanical thinking closer, along with the principle of storing and releasing energy in a spring that sets the cart in motion.
Follow the instructions exactly: the mechanical parts and the gears have to engage correctly for the model to work. Take care over the free running of the moving parts and the springs. The model can be left in the natural color of its wooden appearance or finished with paints for a more realistic effect.
The model is supplied unassembled. Paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
