A wooden deck sheet for ship models. It replaces a plastic deck with a layer of real wood with a drawn plank pattern.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic deck has the planks merely suggested by engraving, so once it is sprayed they merge into one surface. A wooden sheet, by contrast, is a thin layer of real wood with a drawn plank pattern that has grain and a shade of its own. On a finished model it is one of the few modifications that is visible at first glance even from a distance.
The sheet is laid onto a finished and clean deck, that is only after the seams have been filled and the paint on the hull has dried. Try it dry first and check that it sits around the superstructures and the openings. The surface has to be flat: every grain and every drop of dried glue will show through under thin veneer. Work from the center toward the edges and press the sheet down as you go with a soft cloth. The way it is fixed is described in the manufacturer's instructions; check there whether the sheet has an adhesive layer of its own or is glued separately.
The wood can be left in its natural shade or made darker with a stain. Always test on an offcut, because the shade takes at once and cannot be taken back. Choose a matte or semi-gloss protective coat; a high gloss on a deck looks unnatural and emphasizes every fingerprint. Apply it in thin coats, so that the thin layer of wood does not soak it up and buckle.
For builders of ship models who want a deck with faithful wood grain. The ship model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
