A sheet of wooden deck veneer for ship models. It replaces a plastic deck and gives it the grain of real wood.
Responsibility details are not available.
A wooden deck is one of the few accessories that changes the look of a ship model at first glance. The injection-molded deck from a kit has the planks suggested only by an engraved line and, once painted, reads flat. A thin veneer, by contrast, carries the real grain of wood, so light breaks on the surface in much the same way as on the real thing and the individual planks remain apparent even under a coat of varnish.
A sheet of wooden deck veneer. Within the range the individual sheets are told apart by a letter in the name, so they differ in workmanship and in purpose. Which kit and which part of the deck the sheet belongs to is described in the manufacturer's instructions.
The surface must be flat, clean and degreased; every unevenness under the veneer will show on the surface. Lay the sheet on dry first and check the fit with the superstructures and the openings, and only then fix it. The way it is fixed, that is whether the sheet carries an adhesive layer of its own or is glued separately, is given in the manufacturer's instructions. Cut the overlaps away with a new blade guided along the edge of the hull. You do not have to paint the veneer; anyone who wants to even out or darken the shade applies a thin glaze and lets the grain show through.
For builders of ship models who want a deck with the natural grain of wood instead of a painted imitation, and for those who adjust the deck areas to a subject of their own. Working with veneer is calm and forgives mistakes, because the sheet can be tried dry for as long as you like before it is fixed.
The package holds a deck sheet. The ship model, glue and varnishes are not included, unless stated otherwise.
