AK interactive DIRTY WHITE — weathering pencil, dirty white

A single AK interactive weathering pencil in the shade DIRTY WHITE. It is a modeling aid for weathering, not a kit. The lead is semi-greasy and water-soluble: you draw dry and then blend the mark out over the surface with a damp brush. What matters is that this is not a pure white. The shade is deliberately dirtied — slightly brownish and grayish — so that the result does not read as fresh paint but as a deposit that has really been through something on the model.

Use

• Lime and salt efflorescence — white patches on concrete, masonry and the sides of ships, blended out into an irregular stain.
• Dusty surfaces — a fine veil on horizontal surfaces, hoods and hatches.
• Faded lettering and markings — drawing over the edge of the lettering where the paint has dried out in the sun.
• Winter camouflage — chipped and worn white winter paint, scratches and spots where the base shows through.
• Bird droppings on ships and airfield equipment — a few small strokes, blended out and left irregular.

Who it is for

Light deposits are paradoxically the hardest thing of all — with a liquid effect it is easy to overdo and the surface then looks whitewashed. The pencil gives you full control over the amount: you add stroke by stroke and you can take it away at any time with a damp brush. That makes it the safest way for a beginner to do efflorescence and dust, and a quick touch-up tool for advanced modelers. Suitable for ships, military vehicles, aircraft and dioramas alike. A flat base gives the best results.

Keep out of the reach of children. Do not inhale the dust created when sharpening or sanding the pencil lead.
