Paint Forge Dragon Scale Stencils M offers the same dragon scale motif in the smaller of the available formats. It suits places where a larger stencil would not fit on a part or could not be pressed down properly.

The smaller variant of the scale stencil from Paint Forge. The motif is the same as with size L, and the format of the aid is what differs. For a modeler that is a practical difference: with a smaller stencil it is easier to work on a figure, on a part with protrusions or in a place where there is little free area around for holding it.
A scale pattern is almost never applied to a flat board. On a rounded hull, on the shoulder of a figure or on a dragon's neck it holds that a stencil never presses down fully — a gap always stays. Deal with it by pressing down only the part you are spraying at that moment and shifting the stencil step by step. Give a minimum of paint and build it up in layers; a single heavier dose will seep under the edge and smudge the whole motif.
On an area this small a sponge or an almost dry brush is often enough. You pick up a minimum of paint, wipe the excess off on paper and stipple lightly through the stencil straight down — never with a stroke to the side, because a sideways stroke pushes paint under the edge. The method gives a slightly rougher but very natural surface that takes subsequent highlighting with a dry brush well.
The stencil itself contains no paint. It is not a kit and not an accessory to one particular set.
