AMMO DRYBRUSH Medium Blue, an acrylic paint for the dry brush

An opaque water-based acrylic paint, thick and ready to be applied with an almost dry brush. In drybrushing, a medium blue is the tone used as the first highlighting layer: it settles over the whole relief, and only then does the lighter accent come on top of it. Without this intermediate step a hard jump arises between the base color and the light, which looks chalky on a model.

How to work with it

• Pick up little paint and wipe the great majority of it off on a paper towel, as only a dry deposit should be left on the brush.
• Take the first pass freely across the whole relief and the second over the edges only. That creates a smooth transition.
• Use a stiff brush with shorter bristles; a bent and worn-out one is ideal for this work.
• Do not thin the paint and close the container between passes, so that it does not dry on the rim.
• Always let a layer dry through before you add a lighter tone, as a damp deposit would smear.

Where a medium blue finds a use

It suits the blue camouflage areas of naval aircraft, the blue finishes of ship superstructures, machinery and civilian vehicles as well as blue fabric on figures. It also finds a use where the base blue is very dark and it would be risky to go straight in with a light tone. Because it is an opaque paint, it can also be used to suggest worn paint or a repaint over a darker ground.
