Duraluminium is a metallic shade from the Mr.Paint range, supplied pre-thinned to a spray-gun consistency. It imitates polished aircraft duralumin sheet.

Duralumin is an aluminum alloy used for aircraft skins from the 1930s onward. Unlike pure aluminum, it has a slightly warmer tone and a less mirror-like shine. This is exactly what makes the shade useful on models with an unpainted skin, where individual panels differ from each other and the surface must not look like one continuous mirrored sheet.
The metallic look comes from tiny aluminum particles that settle next to each other in the dried coat. For them to settle evenly, the base must be perfectly smooth. Every sanding scratch, every trace of filler and every fingerprint stands out under a metallic paint instead of disappearing. It therefore pays to polish the surface first and only then spray.
The paint is pre-thinned, so it is poured straight into the gun's cup. Stir it gently before pouring; vigorous shaking works air into the metal particles.
Modelers disagree on whether to topcoat metal skins or not. A reasonable compromise is to seal only the areas that will carry decals and leave the rest in its original finish.
