A cleaned track stays clean only until dust from the room settles on it again. On a layout that is not covered over, that is a matter of a few days. Ordinary cleaning does not solve this cycle, it only interrupts it from time to time.
This accessory works continuously. It hangs on the axle of a car and picks up dust every time the train passes. The dirt is therefore removed during running rather than only on a special maintenance run, and the deposit has no time to grow into a layer that would need laborious removal.
The collector hangs under the car out of sight, so it does not disturb the look of the train. It needs no car of its own, no power and no modification to the vehicle, and so it can be put into practically any train without alterations. That also does away with the need to set aside a special service vehicle for the train that does not belong in the consist and spoils it when seen from the side.
The package holds four pieces, which allows them to be split between several trains and the whole line to be kept clean at once. The version is intended for HO.
It will bring the greatest benefit where running is frequent and the layout cannot be covered. In such an environment the settling of dust is continuous and cleaning by hand quickly becomes a tiresome duty. On a display installation under glass, on the other hand, where a train runs once in a while, the benefit is lost. It is advisable to build a regular check and cleaning of the collector itself into the maintenance, so that the dust gathered does not travel back onto the track.
