Turf in a brown earth shade, 353 cm³ in the bag. A base for bare soil, roads and paths.
Responsibility details are not available.
Bare soil matters on a diorama as much as grass. A farmyard, a rutted track, the edge of a field or a building site can hardly do without it, and a painted board gives itself away at first glance. This loose material gives a surface the structure light breaks on.
The bag holds 353 cm³ of material. That is an ordinary portion, enough to cover a decent piece of ground without buying a supply for years ahead.
The earth shade suits use under grass as a base, between rails, in the ruts of vehicles and on open ground where growth would make no sense. It also works well as a transition between asphalt and a grassy edge, because such a border is blurred in reality and never sharp.
Working with it is undemanding. The area is coated with thinned white glue, the material is sprinkled from a height of a few centimeters and once dry the excess is swept off. Anyone who wants deeper ruts can repeat the layer and press it down lightly in between.
This is the loose material alone in a bag, without glue and without a base. The color is permanent and takes overspraying with thinned varnish, so the surface can be fixed against abrasion once finished.
An earth surface has a rewarding property on a model: mistakes get lost in it. An unevenness that a smooth board would emphasize merges into a loose base, and if the result does not come off, the layer can be dampened and partly lifted away.
The material also serves as an intermediate step in building a dusty road, where a coarser grain is laid first and fine dust is added only at the very end.
