The set of liquid stains solves the step that separates a raw model from a finished one: giving gray plaster the color of rock. The manufacturer put it together as a complete system, not as a random selection of shades, so the individual tones mix with one another and complement each other from the lightest to the darkest.
The stains are intended for rock castings, retaining walls, culverts and tunnel portals, that is for everything that is cast or modeled out of a compound. Besides plaster they will also manage flexible paste, plaster cloth, foam, wood and paper pulp, which covers practically all the common building materials of landscape.
In the box there are eight separate bottles of one ounce each, that is 29.5 milliliters each. The binder is water based and the stain stays soluble, so the work goes in thinned layers: the first application runs into the hollows and brings out the pattern, while the next only fine-tunes the overall tone. Anyone who wants a shade of their own mixes the tones in a cup.
The set saves space for anyone building a first diorama who does not want to obtain eight bottles separately. The bottles are smaller than a package on its own, so for an extensive layout they will serve rather as a set to try things out than as a supply for a whole season.
