Sixty imitation hexagonal fasteners for 1:16 scale, in three head diameters: two, two and a half and three millimeters.
Responsibility details are not available.
Molded-in imitations of heads tend to be the weakest point on large models. They are usually too flat, they have rounded edges and at close range they give the mold away. Separately made heads have a crisp hexagon and can be set exactly where you want them, including the places the kit manufacturer left out.
The package holds twenty pieces of each head size. The smallest suit hatches, hinges and instrument panels, the middle ones the mounting of fenders and beams, the largest the chassis, armor plates and frame joints. The trio of sizes is not a decorative whim: real machines combine several dimensions, and it is exactly that irregularity that reads as convincing.
Drill, do not glue flat. The element seats into a pre-drilled hole matching the diameter of the shank. The joint then holds and the head sits level with the surface.
Mark the spacing out first. Heads placed at random hold the eye less well than an even row. It pays to make a paper template and prick the points through with a needle.
Painting. Fit the elements before varnishing so that the same coat covers them. Only once it is dry comes a dark line around the head, which optically settles it into the metal.
In one sixteenth every detail like this shows, and so does every error in the spacing. Before you put a drill to the model, try the whole procedure on a cut-off piece of sprue: you will find out how deep the hole has to go for the head to seat, and how much pressure the shank will still take.
