A ready-made grassy surface for dioramas and model railroad layouts: a flexible mat with grass fibers applied to its face in a light green shade. The 75 x 100 cm format covers a fairly large area at once, so the basic greenery is laid in more quickly than by scattering. The light green shade matches spring and freshly mown grass and serves well as a base onto which a variety of color is then mixed in with other materials. The manufacturer is HEKI, a German brand of terrain-building materials.
For builders of dioramas for plastic models and for model railroads as well, especially when a large area of greenery has to be laid in quickly and with a uniform base. It suits beginners too: a mat forgives more than scattering and gives a usable result the first time. More experienced modelers often use it only as a lower layer, which they then cover with scattered grass, tufts and bushes, so that in the finished build the mat cannot be made out at all.
The mat is supplied on its own, without glue and without further terrain materials, unless stated otherwise. When cutting, work on a mat and guide the knife away from you.
