Fifteen sandbags in 1:35 scale for the BTR-80 armored personnel carrier. Improvised protection of the hull in the form real crews used.
Responsibility details are not available.
The armor of the eight-wheeled BTR-80 armored personnel carrier is enough against splinters and small arms fire, but against a stronger threat it will not protect the crew. The soldiers therefore helped themselves and stacked sandbags on the exposed places of the hull. The modification is simple, quick and unmissable in photographs from deployment.
In the package there are fifteen sandbags in 1:35 scale. The number is chosen so as to be enough for a continuous layer on the nose and on part of the side of the hull, and yet to leave a reserve for a bag laid loose or for a little pile beside the vehicle. Every bag has sagging and folds of cloth of its own, so a stacked layer does not look like a repeated casting.
The bags are added only onto a finished hull:
What makes it convincing is a spread of color. A faded bag beside a newer one, dust settled in the folds and a darker glaze in the gaps will turn an area of khaki into a pile of individual pieces. It pays to go over the edges of the folds with a dry brush.
The set belongs to builders of the BTR-80 in 1:35 scale who want to show the vehicle in the field, not in its factory form. A model, paints and glue are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
