Photo-etched grilles of the engine compartment for models of the heavy German Tiger II tank in 1:35 scale. They replace the solid plastic kit part with an open one.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Tiger II, known under the nickname King Tiger, was among the heaviest mass-produced tanks of the Second World War. It had its engine and radiators at the rear behind an armored bulkhead, and air flowed to them through large grilles on the cover of the engine compartment. On the real machine there is darkness and depth under them, whereas the plastic part of a kit tends to be solid and the grille is only suggested on it by engraving. The rear of the hull is moreover viewed from above in a display case, so the difference shows clearly on a finished model.
This is a photo-etched set in 1:35 scale intended for the Tiger II. The parts lie on a flat fret and are held on it by thin tabs, which are cut through before building. The set is made for a particular shape of the engine cover, so lay the parts on dry first and check the application to your kit in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade against a hard surface, as scissors will buckle the thin fret. Sand the remainders of the tabs down with fine abrasive paper. Make the bends over the edge of a ruler or in a bending tool, so that they come out sharp. They are bonded with super glue in a small amount, as cement for polystyrene will not join these parts. The plastic grille on the model usually has to be cut out or sanded flat, so that the new part sits down without a gap. Before painting, wash the surface, degrease it and spray it with a base paint, or the coat will not hold on the smooth surface. The depth of the grille will then be brought out by a dark shading and a light dusting.
This is an accessory set for a model. The kit, paints, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
