Aviation maintenance steps in 1:48 scale, version one. An accessory for an airfield scene, a diorama or a display case with an aircraft model.
Responsibility details are not available.
Mobile steps are part of the basic equipment of an airfield. Ground crew use them to reach the cockpit, the engines and the upper surfaces of an aircraft that cannot be reached from the ground. On a model they fill the same role in reverse: set at the side of the fuselage they add action to a scene and show the viewer at once how large the real machine is. This is version one of several types of steps in the same line, which differ in shape and in the number of treads.
The most usual place is by the entrance to the cockpit, at the side of the fuselage. They also look good by an open engine cowling or by the tail surfaces during an inspection. Make sure all the feet sit down on the base; steps standing on one foot give away an otherwise successful scene. It helps to place a figure of a ground technician or small tools around them, so that it is clear that work is going on at the machine.
Wash and degrease the parts before painting, as the paint then holds considerably better. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts; on a smooth, non-absorbent surface cyanoacrylate glue holds more reliably than polystyrene cement. Choose the shade according to the scene you are building. On real equipment the paint wears off first on the edges of the treads and on the handrails, so a little of the base showing through and fine dirt on the lower part look believable.
The package contains an accessory for a diorama. The model, figures, a base, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
