An injection-molded plastic kit of the Boeing 787-9 airliner in 1:144 scale from the Russian manufacturer Zvezda, released in 2016. The box holds sprues of plastic parts and waterslide decals. The model is built in the classic way, that is with glue and paints. The parts have clean engraved panel lines and only a minimum of flash.
The 787-9 is the stretched version of the 787-8 Dreamliner: the longer fuselage takes more passengers while the long range is kept. The airframe builds on carbon composites, which cut the weight and allow higher humidity and a lower cabin altitude, so the flight is easier to bear. The aircraft first flew in 2013 and entered airline service in 2014 with Air New Zealand. It is powered by a pair of engines, either General Electric GEnx or Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 units.
The most sensitive spot is the inserted clear strip of the flight deck windows, which needs care so that it does not drop inside the fuselage. A white fuselage calls for a good primer and for application in thin coats; a gloss clear coat before the decals is all but compulsory on an airliner. Some modelers add the lengthwise stripes with decals from other makers. The landing gear doors are thick in this scale and can be thinned down.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
