Airbrush masks of the divisional insignia of German SS units for models in 1:16 scale, the first part of the range.
Responsibility details are not available.
In the Second World War German formations marked their vehicles with simple geometric signs that could be sprayed through a metal stencil even in the field. It was a practical measure: a sign had to be readable from a distance, easy to repeat and quick to paint over when a unit moved. That is exactly why the shapes take the form of keys, runes, shields or crossed bars. This set carries that marking over onto models in 1:16 scale and is marked as the first part of a range, so it covers a selection of the signs, not all of those that existed.
A mask works differently from a decal. It is not paper that is sprayed through it but paint, so the result is part of the paintwork and has neither a glossy film nor the edge of a carrier film.
The best result comes from a thin coat of paint laid on in two goes: the first pass only seals the edge of the mask, the second gives the coverage. Take the mask off while the paint is not yet fully hardened, with fine-pointed tweezers and an angled pull from the edge. On large models it also pays to polish the surface under the mask first, so that the film sits on it well and the paint does not run under the edge of the cut shape.
