On a car model the wheels are visible from every side, and their shape gives away the period and the style of the car sooner than anything else. Swapping the rims is therefore one of the quickest ways to give a build its own character: an ordinary production car becomes a modified one, or a heavily modified model turns back into a car in its original specification. The set contains rims in 1:24 scale, the most widespread scale for car kits.
The figure of fourteen inches refers to the real subject, not to the model. A fourteen-inch rim has a diameter of just under thirty-six centimeters on the real car, which works out at roughly fifteen millimeters in 1:24 scale. It therefore pays to measure the wheels in the kit before you order, so that the new rims fit the existing tires and the wheel arches. The Mk III designation and the figure in brackets distinguish versions within the manufacturer's range of rims; their meaning is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Polished and chromed surfaces need a smooth base, because a glossy coat accentuates every scratch. Finish the sanding completely, then, before you reach for the paint.
