This injection-molded plastic kit from the Italian brand Italeri in 1:24 scale captures the famous rally Fiat 131 Abarth in the colors of its sponsor Olio Fiat. The box holds plastic parts, rubber tires, waterslide decals and instructions with a color scheme. The version corresponds to car number 3, which Markku Alén drove in the second half of the 1970s. The model faithfully captures the aggressive shape of the body with its flared fenders and air intakes.
The Fiat 131 Abarth was based on the production Fiat 131 sedan and from 1976 became one of the most successful cars of the World Rally Championship. Abarth lightened the car, fitted flared fenders for wider wheels and a four-cylinder engine with a four-valve-per-cylinder head. With the Fiat marque it took three manufacturers' world titles and a drivers' title; it was raced until 1982. The Olio Fiat livery is among its best known.
Use liquid cement on the plastic. Spray the body with an airbrush over a primer and finish with a gloss coat so that the saturated colors of the livery stand out. Apply the sponsor decals only onto the gloss coat, so that no silvering edges appear; paint the interior, the engine and the roll cage before closing up the body.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
