This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:24 scale from Japan's Tamiya captures the Porsche 911 GT1 racing GT machine in its form for the 24 Hours of Le Mans of the mid-nineteen nineties. The model captures the low, stretched silhouette of the car, the turbocharged engine mounted ahead of the rear axle and the wheel suspension. In the box you will find chrome-plated parts, clear parts for the glazing and the headlights, painting masks for the windows, a well worked out interior with a roll cage and a removable rear cover over the engine bay. The decals cover the works cars in the colors of the main sponsor.
The Porsche 911 GT1 was created for the GT class of endurance racing and, despite the shared name, it had little in common with the production 911: it was a racing prototype with its engine mounted ahead of the rear axle, in midship position. A turbocharged flat-six drove the rear wheels and the car was among the front of the field at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where the works Porsche fought for outright victory.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic. Prime the body, paint it in thin coats and finish with a gloss clear coat polished to a high shine; on racing cars that lifts the result markedly. Use the masks supplied for clean window surrounds. Fit the chrome-plated parts and the glazing last of all and glue them with a glue for clear parts, which leaves no fogging. Apply the sponsor markings and race numbers onto a gloss surface and seal them with clear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
