1:32 English Electric (BAC) Lightning F.2A/F.6 is an injection-molded plastic kit of the British supersonic interceptor from Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This large-scale injection-molded kit from Trumpeter depicts the British Lightning interceptor in its late F.2A and F.6 forms. The 1:32 scale gives the finished model impressive dimensions and plenty of room to work out the cockpit, the wheel bays and the massive air intakes. It is a classic plastic kit that the modeler assembles and paints to a plan of their own.
The Lightning was the only British fighter of home design to exceed twice the speed of sound in regular Royal Air Force service. Its structural hallmark is the unusual layout of the powerplant: two Rolls-Royce Avon jet engines lie in the fuselage one above the other and staggered one behind the other, which keeps the fuselage slim and gave the aircraft its famous rate of climb. The F.2A version came about by converting older machines to the late standard with the large ventral tank, and the F.6 was the final production interception version. The main task of both was to stand alert and to bar the way to bombers heading for the British Isles and for the bases in Western Europe.
A model of this format is best built in sections: first finish and paint the cockpit and the wheel bays, and only then close the fuselage. Use thin cement on the plastic joints and sand the seams in two passes rather than one. Lay down a base color before spraying, so that the engraved panel lines come out. A gloss coat under the decals will prevent bubbles under the film.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
