An injection-molded plastic kit of the German fighter Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2 in its tropical (Trop) configuration, in the large 1:32 scale from Trumpeter. This is a sizable model with a finely engraved surface which, according to the manufacturer's catalog, is rounded out with clear plastic for the cockpit glazing, a small photo-etched fret, and decals. The letters Trop in the designation refer to tropical equipment for deployment in dusty environments.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was the most numerous German fighter of the Second World War. The G (Gustav) version brought the more powerful Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine and became the most numerous variant of the whole series. The Bf 109G-2/Trop configuration was adapted for combat in the Mediterranean and North Africa, where aircraft received a dust filter on the intake and other tropical equipment. A number of well-known pilots flew it on this front.
Use thin liquid plastic cement, and glue the photo-etched and clear parts with cyanoacrylate. Finish and paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage; the large scale lets the instrument-panel detail really stand out here. Apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush; the included scheme makes clean cockpit glazing easier. On desert aircraft, subtle dust weathering and worn leading edges work well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
