An add-on sheet from Xtradecal in 1:32 scale with serial letters and numbers in black for aircraft of the Royal Air Force, the Royal Navy and the Army.
Responsibility details are not available.
A decal sheet holding separate letters and numbers from which the builder puts together a serial of his own. It is the black version and the characters are eight inches high, which is a common size used on British aircraft. The set is meant for the Royal Air Force as well as for the air arms of the Royal Navy and the Army.
A serial is the permanent identity of one particular airframe, assigned when it is taken on strength. It is usually carried on the rear fuselage and on the tail surfaces and, unlike squadron codes, it does not change during service, whatever repainting the aircraft goes through. That is exactly why no honestly marked British model can do without one. The combination of letters and numbers differs according to the arm of service and the period, so a loose set of characters opens the way to machines that cannot be found on ordinary sheets.
The characters are cut out of the sheet one by one, so it pays to set out the spacing on paper in advance and to mark the center line. Check the position against a photograph of the subject before pressing the film down. Small gaps between the characters can be evened out after drying with the tip of a toothpick moistened with water.
Only the decals are supplied. Neither an aircraft model nor the agents for settling the decals are enclosed.
