A sizeable and richly detailed injection-molded plastic model of the American carrier fighter Vought F4U-1D Corsair in the large 1:32 scale from the top Japanese brand Tamiya. It is a premium kit which, thanks to the size of 1:32, offers an exceptional level of detail: a finely rendered Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine with delicate cylinder finning, the gull wing, which can be built spread or folded, and the option of assembling the model standing or in flight (parts of the landing gear and a stand are enclosed). The package also holds pilot figures and photo-etched parts for added realism.
The F4U Corsair was an American carrier fighter of the Second World War, easily recognized by its inverted gull wing, which made it possible to use a large propeller while keeping the landing gear short. The F4U-1D version was among the widespread production variants and was among the first Corsairs officially operated from the decks of aircraft carriers. The combination of high speed, heavy armament and the load-carrying ability of its racks (bombs, drop tanks and unguided rockets) made it a feared machine of the second half of the war.
Given the size of 1:32 and the amount of detail, this is a representative build that more experienced modelers will appreciate. Glue the plastic parts with a thin modeling cement for plastic and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. It pays to paint and shade the engine and the cockpit before the fuselage is closed up. Apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush in thin coats; the blue-gray naval finish is brought to life by emphasizing the panels and by a fine wash.
