This is a plastic accessory set, not a model of a vehicle or a piece of equipment. The package holds moldings from which the equipment used by Allied engineers to find mines in the Second World War is assembled. The set is meant to complete dioramas, display scenes and figure compositions in 1:35 scale and can be combined with practically any model in the same scale. You will find the specific make-up of the package, the number of parts and the exact type designations of the individual devices in the instructions inside the package.
Finding mines was among the routine tasks of engineer units. Portable detectors worked on the principle of electromagnetic induction: the operator swept a search head on a pole over the ground and listened through headphones for the change in tone that a metal object below the surface set off. Besides the detector itself, a squad's equipment included power supplies, haversacks, marking aids for laying out a searched lane and simple tools. On a diorama, therefore, this set makes sense above all in a scene with infantry or engineers, at a column passing through, at a roadblock or on a country road.
The parts in this kind of set are small, so separate them with a sharp knife or photo-etch nippers and clean them up with a fine-grit file, so as not to break the thin poles and frames. Spray the whole assembly with a base coat before painting. Set the metal and the textile parts apart both in shade and in degree of sheen: metal parts take a fine dry brush in a metallic color, while haversacks and straps want a matte surface and light dust. Finally, pull the whole set together with the ground of the diorama using a wash and pigments, so that it does not look like a foreign item stuck on.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
