About product

The real subject

The Austin armored cars were among the first wheeled armored vehicles built in series. They came about during the First World War at the British Austin motor works and were supplied above all to the Russian army, which committed them on the Eastern Front and used them in the following years as well. A conspicuous mark of the whole family is the pair of turrets set side by side on the roof of the hull, thanks to which the vehicle could fire to two sides at once. The third series is a later stage of development, with further work on the hull and the running gear.

What the set contains

This is a plastic kit in 1:35 scale, that is, a set of parts to be assembled and painted. The scale matches the most widespread range of models of land equipment, so the vehicle goes together with figures and accessories in a scene. The number of parts, the extent of the interior fitting and the choice of marking variants are stated in the instructions from the manufacturer.

Building and painting tips

Free the parts of excess material and of the traces of manufacture and try the assembly dry before you reach for the glue. Use cement for plastic models and dose it sparingly, so that it does not run onto the visible surfaces. Leave the turrets and their mountings separate as long as possible; they are then painted more easily. Wash and degrease the surface before painting. The riveted structure of the hull is pulled out by a light pass with a dry brush, and the wheels and the underside suit a fine dust.

Who it is for

The kit will please those interested in the equipment of the First World War and in the beginnings of the armored vehicle in general, and builders of scenes from the Eastern Front just as much. Paints, thinner, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
