About product

Besa 7.92 mm machine gun barrel tips, 1:35, two pieces (MASTER)

This is not a vehicle model but two turned metal parts. They replace the visible front section of the barrel of the Besa 7.92 mm machine gun on models of British armored vehicles in 1:35 scale. They are made by the Polish company MASTER.

The real subject

The Besa was the British tank version of a Czechoslovak machine gun, built under license from the end of the 1930s. It kept the original 7.92 mm caliber, which was an exception among British weapons. It was fitted to most British tanks of the Second World War, usually in the turret mantlet beside the main gun and in the hull. Of the whole weapon only a short piece of barrel projecting from the mounting shows on a model, and that is precisely what these parts replace.

Why metal tips instead of plastic

Injection-molded plastic has a blind end in this place and a parting line along its whole length. The bore has to be laboriously drilled into soft plastic, which at such a small diameter often ends with the drill running off. A turned tip has its bore ready made, it is true to the axis, and both barrels from the package look exactly the same, so one vehicle does not end up with two machine guns of different thickness.

Fitting and painting tips

Cut the plastic end of the barrel off square with a sharp knife or a saw and drill a hole in what remains for the pin of the metal part. Slide it in dry and check that the barrel points straight. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue, preferably with a fine tip so that the glue does not run into the bore. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and use a primer for metal. Instead of matte black, a dark blackening or a graphite cast that can be burnished with a pencil looks better.

Who the accessory is for

  • Builders of British armored vehicles in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers who do not want to drill a bore into a plastic barrel
  • Those who are building a vehicle with two Besa machine guns
  • More experienced modelers working with small metal parts

The accessory is supplied unpainted and without the base kit. Glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Two pieces, as the product designation states.

No, these are barrel tips, that is only the visible front section that projects from the mounting on a model.

The bore is ready made. You will only drill the hole in the plastic barrel into which the metal part is fitted.

Degrease with alcohol, lay down a primer for metal and use a dark metal shade or a blackening. Plain matte black looks flat on metal.
