About product

British Army Sherman V (M4A4) 1:35 (Asuka / Tasca)

An injection-molded plastic kit from the Japanese manufacturer Asuka (formerly Tasca) captures the Sherman V — the British designation for the American M4A4 version — in 1:35 scale. Asuka and Tasca Shermans belong to the absolute top among models of this tank thanks to their fine rendering and exceptional attention to detail. The kit contains photo-etched parts, a commander figure and markings for several vehicles; the tracks are done as soft flexible one-piece parts capturing the T62 steel track, which fit easily and still do not lose detail. The model offers a movable gun elevation mechanism and suspension.

The real subject

The M4A4 was the American version of the Sherman medium tank with a lengthened hull, called for by the installation of the Chrysler A57 Multibank engine, made up of five inline six-cylinder units. In British service the tank received the designation Sherman V and was one of the key Sherman variants used by the British Army and Commonwealth units in the Second World War. The longer hull is the typical recognition feature of this version.

Building and painting tips

Assemble and paint the running gear and the interior details before you close the hull. It is a good idea to paint the flexible tracks separately and to fit them only once the hull is painted. A dark wash bringing out the rivets, hatches and welds suits the surface; you complete the mud and dust effects with pigments on the underside, the fenders and the running gear. For the British scheme (khaki and olive) an airbrush is ideal; use thin modeling cement on the plastic and glue the photo-etched parts with super glue. The commander figure is painted with a brush.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Allied armor of the Second World War
  • Lovers of the Sherman tank and its variants
  • Modelers who will appreciate a superbly rendered kit
  • Builders with a taste for patina and detail

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
