An injection-molded plastic kit of the British version of the American medium tank M3 Medium, the Grant, in 1:35 scale from Takom. The model represents the variant with the different, British-designed turret by which the Grant differed from the American Lee. The M3 medium tank was an American design of the early Second World War with an unusual arrangement of armament: the main 75 mm gun sat in a sponson on the side of the hull, while the revolving turret held a smaller 37 mm gun. The British asked for their own variant with a reworked, lower turret with room for a radio set and without a commander's cupola; they named this version the Grant, while the original American configuration carried the name Lee, both after generals of the American Civil War. The Grant tanks played an important part in the fighting in North Africa, among other places at El Alamein.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic and sand the joints carefully. Paint and pick out the running gear with its wheels and tracks before you finish the hull. Desert service in North Africa lends itself beautifully to weathering: over a sand base coat apply a wash to pick out the details and use dust pigments to create settled dust on the running gear, the fenders and the lower hull. Apply a gloss coat before the decals.
