The real subject

The Leopard 2 is a German main battle tank which since the 1980s has formed the backbone of the armored forces of a number of European armies. The 2A6 version differs from the older machines in a longer barrel: its 120 mm gun has a length of 55 calibers, so it projects noticeably further forward from the hull. The letter M in the designation refers to strengthened mine protection, and the suffix CAN to the Canadian form.

What can be recognized on the real subject

The characteristic feature of the Leopard 2A6 is the wedge-shaped turret with sloped front faces and the large side armor panels covering the running gear. It is precisely in these places that careful building shows: an even seating face for the panels, a faithful seating of the tracks on the running gear and a cleanly seated basket on the turret decide the overall impression more than the number of small parts.

Building and painting tips

Try the assembly dry, remove the excess material and the traces of production with a sharp blade and sand the surfaces. The recommended marking scheme and the color shades are stated in the instructions enclosed with the kit. After the base coat it pays to bring out the edges, darken the seams and lay fine dust on the running gear, because the large continuous surfaces of the hull otherwise look flat.
