The Faun SLT-56 is a German heavy equipment transporter (HET) developed for the needs of the West German army. As the towing vehicle of a tank transporter combination it could carry even the heaviest combat vehicles by road and so spare their tracks and engines. It was notable for a powerful diesel engine, drive to several axles and a structure dimensioned for extreme loads. The nickname Elefant refers to its strength and size.
With large wheeled equipment it pays to assemble and paint the chassis, the drivetrain and the cab interior before the body is closed up. Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); fit the rubber tires only after painting. Apply a primer before painting and spray the paint with an airbrush in thin coats. Refine the weathering with dark washes in the recesses and pigments for dust effects on the chassis and the wheels.
