The 1:35 Faun SLT 50-3 Elefant with SaAnh.52t is a plastic kit of the German heavy tractor Faun SLT 50-3 Elefant with its tank transporter semi-trailer, from Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit from Trumpeter covers the whole German tank transporter combination: the Faun SLT 50-3 heavy tractor nicknamed Elefant and the matching semi-trailer rated for a 52 ton load. The combination is one of the most massive wheeled models that can be built in 1:35 scale, and it fills a display case even without a tank loaded on it. It will appeal above all to collectors of Bundeswehr vehicles and to builders of logistics scenes.
The Faun SLT 50 Elefant is a heavy road tractor with all-wheel drive that the West German army acquired to move Leopard tanks away from the railways. The tractor has a roomy cab for the driver and for the crew of the vehicle being recovered, a powerful winch system and a frame sized for hauling a semi-trailer with a main battle tank. The semi-trailer has several axles, folding loading ramps and a low-set deck to keep the combination able to pass under obstacles. The Elefant served for decades and became a characteristic sight in German convoys; only later were newer types added alongside it in this role.
Assemble the frames of both the tractor and the semi-trailer on a flat surface and keep checking that every wheel touches down. It is practical to paint the cab, the tires and the deck separately and to join them only at the end. Even out the substrate with a primer, spray the base shade with an airbrush and do the three-color Bundeswehr camouflage with masking putty or with a soft transition. Concentrate the weathering on the wheel arches, the loading ramps and the deck, where the paint wears through and dirt collects.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
