An injection-molded plastic kit of a German development proposal from the end of the Second World War that was to carry a heavy 12.8 cm anti-tank gun on a light tracked chassis. 1:35 scale, made by Trumpeter. The same manufacturer also offers other German weapon carriers with different armament.
The weapon carrier concept grew out of a simple consideration: the artillery needed mobility, but a full tank destroyer was expensive to produce and demanding in materials. The answer was to be the simplest possible tracked chassis with a minimum of armor that would bring the weapon to its firing position. Some proposals even allowed for the gun to be taken off and used as a conventional field piece. Several companies worked on the requirement, and Krupp submitted its own solution for the heaviest weapon under consideration as well, the 12.8 cm anti-tank gun. The war ended before the proposals turned into production vehicles, however, so this machine stayed at the design and prototype stage.
Finish and paint the running gear before you assemble the superstructure, because the rollers are hard to reach afterwards. The open fighting platform is visible from every side, so it pays to add ammunition and equipment to it. Because the subject never saw action, the modeler is not tied to a period photograph and can go for the late three-tone camouflage scheme or for a plain single-color finish. Dust and mud on the underside will settle the model into its terrain.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
