A German crew refuelling a tank, Second World War is a set of two resin figures in 1:35 scale from Royal Model. It captures the topping up of fuel in an armored vehicle.
Responsibility details are not available.
Unlike single figures, this item from Royal Model offers two resin figures at once that together form one activity. In building a scene that is a substantial difference: two figures linked by a shared task create action, whereas two figures standing side by side at random stay mere decoration.
The supply of fuel decided the pace of armored operations more than armor or caliber did. Refuelling was done directly in the field, usually from jerrycans, with a funnel and by hand, as pumps were the exception. The crew would strip down to their shirts for it, put their caps aside and work in pairs, because a twenty-liter jerrycan does not lift itself over the hull. It is exactly such ordinary, non-combat tasks that turn a diorama into a credible scene; heroic poses on a model almost always look empty.
First stand both figures dry against the model of the vehicle and check that their posture matches the height of the hull, since on sets of this kind the position of the arms tends to be designed for a particular height. Degrease the resin, cut off the casting remnants and glue the joints with cyanoacrylate. When painting, tell the two men apart: a different shirt shade, different hair color and a different degree of dirt will prevent the impression that they are twins. Suggest traces of fuel and grease on the hands and on the hull with a gloss shade at the very end.
The pair is sold unpainted; chemicals and paints are bought separately.
