The subject is a railway car, so the finished model comes out markedly larger than a tank kit in the same scale.
In 1942 German armored trains were given a standard arrangement designated BP 42. Besides the command car and the infantry car it also included cars carrying the main firepower. The gun and anti-aircraft car is exactly that: at one end it had a rotating turret with a field gun, at the other an open position for the anti-aircraft armament, as a rule a four-barrel 2 cm cannon. Because of a chronic shortage of German weapons, captured Soviet field guns were often mounted in the turrets. Trains with this armament secured railway lines on the Eastern Front and in the Balkans, where they could strike both against a ground ambush and against an attack from low altitude.
On a railway car what decides the result is straight sides, clean rows of rivets and precisely assembled bogies. The open anti-aircraft position is a rewarding place to add ammunition and equipment. The joints of the sheet metal come out after a light dark wash, and rust and grease effects suit the underside of the car and the bogies, with fine dust at the wheels. Standing the model on a piece of track with a ballast bed gives the scene the right sense of scale.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
