About product

German PzKpfw 38(t) Ausf.E/F in 1:35 scale (Trumpeter)

A plastic kit of the light tank Panzerkampfwagen 38(t) in the Ausf.E/F version. The model in 1:35 scale concentrates on faithful external detail of the hull and the turret; it is an exterior kit without internal equipment. The package is usually rounded out with a small photo-etched part and decals for two marking options; the exact contents follow the particular edition.

The real subject

The 38(t) tank is a machine of Czechoslovak origin - it was developed and built by CKD (Praga) in Prague as the LT vz. 38 type. After the occupation of the Czech lands it was taken over by the German army under the designation Pz.Kpfw. 38(t) and used with success in the campaigns in Poland, France and the Soviet Union. The E/F versions received thicker frontal armor. When the armament ceased to be enough, the dependable chassis served as the basis for a range of tank destroyers and self-propelled guns. It is thanks to that chassis that the 38(t) type stayed in service long after the tank itself had become obsolete as a combat vehicle.

Building and painting tips

First assemble the running gear - the wheels, the rollers and the tracks - and paint it before the fenders cover it over. Glue the plastic with thin cement and the photo-etched part with cyanoacrylate glue. Lay down a primer and spray with an airbrush; the riveted hull comes out well after a wash into the seams and dry-brushing on the edges, and dust and mud can be suggested with pigments on the running gear.

Who the model is for

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

  • Anyone interested in equipment of Czechoslovak origin
  • Collectors of German light tanks of the beginning of the war
  • Modelers who will appreciate a riveted surface and tracks
  • Builders of dioramas from 1939 to 1941
